Real Madrid confirm preseason friendly against Schalke 04 | OneFootball

Real Madrid have only around three weeks left to prepare for the upcoming season as their first La Liga game of the 2026-27 season is scheduled to be played on 22nd August. As things stand, although Jose Mourinho is still waiting for some of the most important players to return after their holidays, the Merengues have already completed a significant part of the preseason.

So far, they have played two training matches. The first ended in a 1-0 win over Alcorcon, while the second ended in another 4-1 win against Leganes. Going forward, Los Blancos are going to play several friendlies in the month of August.

As Diario AS has reported, Real Madrid have today finalized one more friendly game for the preseason, and they will travel to Germany to face Schalke 04 on 16 August. This game is an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the German club’s stadium, Veltins-Arena, and the hosts will welcome the Merengues back at their stadium after a wait of more than 10 years.

It has been quite some time since Los Blancos have played against Schalke. The last time they did so was back in the 2014-15 season, when they visited the Veltins-Arena in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, and came out with a 2-0 win. A year before that, they visited the same venue for another UCL Round of 16 first leg game against Schalke, and put in one of their most memorable performances in Europe, resulting in a 6-1 win.

This time, they will be visiting for a friendly, which will hopefully prove to be a good test for Jose Mourinho’s team. Before that, Real Madrid will face Fiorentina on 1 August, Ferencvaros on 8 August, and Deportivo on 12 August in this summer’s preseason friendlies.
