Real Madrid have decided against re-signing former captain Sergio Ramos, despite the recent season-ending injury to Dani Carvajal.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, although the European champions are eligible to sign a free agent who is not currently tied to any club, as a replacement for Carvajal until the transfer window reopens in January, the signing of Ramos is ruled out.

While the scenario seems like an ideal situation for Ramos, who is currently without a team after parting ways with Sevilla, that is an option Madrid are not considering.

Why is Ramos ruled out?

Ramos, a former Real Madrid icon, left the club under difficult circumstances, which reportedly involved a dispute with the club’s management.

Despite a push for his return, Real Madrid’s leadership is not interested in bringing him back. The manner in which Ramos departed from Madrid, after a challenging negotiation period, has likely left a lasting impression on the club’s authorities.

It is worth noting that Ramos signed a one-year contract with Sevilla in September 2023, marking a return to his boyhood club.

However, his stint there was short-lived, as he left the club in June 2024 and has been a free agent since. There were rumours of a potential move to Major League Soccer, but no deal materialised.

What next for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid’s decision not to consider Ramos as a replacement for Carvajal suggests they are looking for other options or may wait until the January transfer window to find a suitable replacement.

The club’s reluctance to bring back a player with such a significant past indicates a clear focus on moving forward rather than revisiting old alliances. Ramos’ future remains uncertain, as he continues to look for his next footballing chapter.

For now, everything points out to the fact that Lucas Vazquez will continue to be Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back and if there is a need, Eder Militao can chip in as well.
