There is growing concern within Real Madrid following a worrying update regarding young defender Raul Asencio.

What initially appeared to be a minor issue has now escalated into a situation that has forced the player to undergo hospital tests.

According to journalist Miguel Angel Diaz speaking on COPE, Asencio has been admitted for medical evaluation to determine the exact virus behind his condition.

The defender has reportedly lost six kilos in just two weeks, which is a significant drop that has raised alarm within the club.

What happened to Asencio?

His absence was first noticed ahead of the crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, when he was unexpectedly left out of the travelling squad.

At the time, speculation emerged suggesting a possible disagreement with manager Alvaro Arbeloa, but that theory has now been firmly dismissed.

Instead, the reality is far more concerning, as Asencio had been experiencing dizziness and physical discomfort in the hours leading up to the trip, prompting medical staff to intervene.

Early indications within the club pointed towards gastroenteritis, but the severity of his symptoms has required further investigation.

Out of upcoming clash

The timing could not be worse for Real Madrid, as Asencio has already been ruled out of the upcoming La Liga fixture against Deportivo Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The hope internally is that he can recover in time for the next match against Real Betis on April 24, but that remains uncertain.

What is clear is that this is no longer a routine illness.

Rapid weight loss combined with ongoing symptoms has turned this into a serious health concern that requires careful monitoring.

Understandably so, the priority now is the player’s recovery rather than any short-term sporting considerations.

However, with the La Liga title race intensifying, his absence is yet another challenge for a squad already dealing with inconsistency.
