With each passing day, Carlo Ancelotti’s time at Real Madrid seems to be edging closer to an end following the recent humiliation suffered at the hands of Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League.

As has already been well-established, Real Madrid view former midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso as the ideal candidate to take over the reins of the club once Ancelotti departs.

Talks held with Alonso’s advisor

Now, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid have recently held talks with Inaki Ibanez’s who happens to be Alonso’s top advisor.

The Spanish capital giants have been working in the background to bring in Alonso for some time now, with talks having previously taken place between the two camps.

As per the aforementioned outlet, fresh negotiations have again been held between Los Blancos and Ibanez.

However, Real Madrid are yet to make direct contact with Alonso’s employers, Bayer Leverkusen, to explore the possibility of a deal.

Leverkusen will seek €15-20 million

The report further states that Bayer Leverkusen, for their part, are not surprised by the developing situation between Real Madrid and Alonso.

The reigning champions of Germany are only waiting for the 43-year-old to make a decision and inform them about whether he will stay or move to Real Madrid.

In case of an exit, Leverkusen expect a fee of €15-20 million to release Alonso from his contract which runs until 2026. They are also keeping an eye on the coaching market for a replacement.

So, everything suggests that Real Madrid and Alonso will end up reuniting in the next few months, although it will cost the Merengues around €15-20 million to bring in the Spaniard as their new manager.
