Real Madrid have reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori in the summer transfer window.

The Italy international made 26 Premier League appearances, of which 22 were starts, last season as the Gunners lifted their first title in 22 years.

The 24-year-old is contracted to the north London outfit until 2029, but it looks like Los Blancos might try and prise him away from Mikel Arteta ahead of next season.

Real Madrid make transfer enquiry for Arsenal star Calafiori

According to Sky Italia, Real Madrid have “asked for information on Calafiori” to find out the feasibility of a move for the full-back and whether Arsenal would be open to doing a deal this summer.

The Spanish giants are looking to bolster their defence following the departures of David Alaba and Dani Carvajal as Jose Mourinho gets set to return to the dugout at the Bernabeu.

Fabrizio Romano also reports that Real want a versatile player who can play at both centre-back and left-back, which fits Calafiori’s profile. “For Real Madrid it could be an interesting option to follow in the market,” he said on his YouTube channel.

Calafiori broke into the senior squad at AS Roma when Mourinho was in charge after coming through the club’s academy, though the Special One was also the manager when the player was sold to FC Basel in 2022.

Despite this, Calafiori has previously praised Mourinho for the influence he had on his career. “It was his choice to sell me, but I’ll also tell you something. Mourinho and I talk; he wrote me several messages, and there’s a nice relationship between us,” he said.

“He forged my character and personality. The fact that he asks you for 200 percent in every training session and that he makes his choices by looking at what you give on the pitch.”

The Premier League’s summer 2026 transfer window will officially open on Monday, 15 June.
