Real Madrid megastar Kylian Mbappe has been out of action for two weeks now, with the knee injury that had sidelined him in late 2025 resurfacing again.

As a result, the 27-year-old attacker has already missed three matches for Real Madrid – against SL Benfica, Getafe and Celta Vigo.

His involvement in the double-headed against Manchester City in the coming days also remains uncertain, with new medical tests expected to take place to determine his readiness.

Mbappe will travel to the US with France

However, according to L’Equipe (h/t AS), Mbappe is expected to be included in the squad selected by Didier Deschamps for the two matches that the France national football team will play in the United States during the next international break this month.

Les Bleus face off against Brazil on the 26th and against Colombia on the 29th, and Mbappe is expected to travel to the USA with the France squad.

However, the fact that the captain of the French national team travels to the United States does not necessarily mean that he will play in either of the matches.

His presence is mainly linked to commercial commitments, as Nike and other sponsors have agreements requiring him to participate in various promotional activities aimed at expanding their brand presence in the American market.

If he were not to travel, the financial losses would be enormous, which is why both parties are interested in the Real Madrid international being present on the tour, even if he arrives while still recovering from injury.

An eye on the World Cup

Mbappe’s knee has set off alarm bells in France. With only a few months remaining before the start of the World Cup, his absence would represent a major blow for Deschamps’ team.

He will continue with a conservative treatment that for now avoids the need for surgery. However, no one can guarantee that he will reach the World Cup in optimal condition.

Mbappe is determined to play and win the World Cup and will not risk his knee unnecessarily. Aware that a relapse could deprive him of his third World Cup appearance, the French star decided to stop pushing himself over a week ago.

For the Frenchman, his recovery now takes priority so that the discomfort does not worsen and jeopardize his participation in the most important international tournament in football.

Meanwhile, neither Deschamps nor the medical staff of the French national team, who are closely monitoring his treatment, intend to take risks with him during the March international break. If he is not fully recovered, he will not play against Brazil or Colombia.

Nevertheless, it is almost inevitable that Mbappe will board the plane with the rest of the squad because his contract includes a series of commercial obligations that he must fulfill.
