Real Madrid returned to training at Valdebebas today after the two-and-a-half days off granted by manager Alvaro Arbeloa following last Sunday’s victory against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

These will be the team’s final few training sessions of the season as they take on Athletic Club in their last game of the 2025/26 campaign this weekend.

And, according to MARCA, the return to training was marked by one positive development for Real Madrid as Arda Guler was back working with the team.

Indeed, the Turkish midfielder completed part of the session with the rest of the group after nearly a month out of action.

The Turkish international has been unavailable since April 23 after suffering a muscle injury to the hamstring in his right leg and has missed Real Madrid’s last five matches.

With the World Cup just around the corner, no risks will be taken with his recovery, and the expectation is that he will also remain unavailable against Athletic Club in the final match of the season at the Bernabeu, despite already being back alongside the team.

Absences from training

Meanwhile, Andriy Lunin trained normally after missing the previous two matches due to a viral illness

Regarding absences, Aurelien Tchouameni, Vinicius Jr., Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold did not work with the group and instead trained indoors at the club facilities.

Tchouameni and Vinicius, having been heavily relied upon by Arbeloa in recent months, could be rested against Athletic Club with the World Cup in mind.

The situation is very different for Carvajal, who is expected to start against Athletic Club on what will be his farewell day at Real Madrid.

Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo continue recovering from their long-term injuries.
