Eduardo Camavinga has emerged as the public enemy number one at Real Madrid after their disappointing defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

The Frenchman, who was already under heaps of pressure due to his poor form and failure to live up to expectations, was sent off late in the game, effectively killing Real Madrid’s chances of a late comeback.

Following the red card, Camavinga has faced immense criticism, with even the Real Madrid fans calling for his departure in the coming summer.

Camavinga’s mental state after Bayern defeat

A recent report from MARCA has offered some insights into the scenes that unfolded inside the Real Madrid dressing room following the elimination, and they paint a deeply human picture of a player at his lowest ebb.

According to the report, as the players streamed in from the pitch, still seething from the refereeing controversy, they found Camaving alone, crying inconsolably.

The Frenchman was fully aware of the weight of his mistake and did not attempt to deflect the blame, acknowledging that, regardless of the refereeing decisions, he should have abandoned the ball and recovered his position.

After the immediate storm had passed, Camavinga took to social media to post a brief, direct and sincere message of apology.

The red card was, in many ways, the culmination of a deeply troubling campaign. Camavinga has lost his place in the starting eleven to the likes of Thiago Pitarch and Brahim Diaz.

His teammates have rallied around him in the aftermath, with the group closing ranks in support. But the player knows his future at Real Madrid is not sure, with the club reportedly prepared to sell him in the coming summer.
