Over the past few days, reports have suggested that Real Madrid have taken an interest in Mats Hummels.

The 35-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired and a move to Bologna has been touted.

However, rumours of interest from Real Madrid have surfaced recently, following the club’s failure to close the deal for top target Leny Yoro.

Hummels not an option for Real Madrid

However, now, AS reports that despite the speculations, Real Madrid are not considering signing Mats Hummels and that the 35-year-old is simply not an option for the reigning Spanish and European champions.

While the report suggests that the former German international was tempted by the possibility of playing for Real Madrid, the club have no interest in signing him.

There are no questions about Hummels’ levels – he performed exceptionally for Borussia Dortmund last season helping them reach the Champions League finals. And the 35-year-old would be available for free as well.

However, Real Madrid rule out any move for the former Dortmund man as he does not fit the parameters of the players that they are looking for.

As far as the Merengues are concerned, they are totally calm about the situation despite the fact that they missed out on the signing of Yoro.

While they are looking for possible reinforcements in defence, the club will not move rashly and consider any signing only if a suitable opportunity presents itself.

Apart from Hummels, names like Aymeric Laporte and Piero Hincapie have also been mentioned as possible options and it remains to be seen if Real Madrid do sign anyone or stick with their current options.
