Real Madrid continue planning for the future, and as usual, they are closely monitoring key positions that may soon require generational replacements.
One such area that they are looking to strengthen in the near future is the goalkeeping department where Andriy Lunin is staring at an uncertain future.
In this context, Defensa Central reports that superagent Jorge Mendes has presented Real Madrid with a strong candidate for the goalkeeping position: Diogo Costa.
The current FC Porto No. 1 and one of the standout performers in Portuguese football in recent years, Costa has been linked with a big move away for a while now but nothing has materialised. Now, his services have been offered to Real Madrid.
While the Merengues have full confidence in Thibaut Courtois – especially as his contract renewal nears completion – his recent injury issues and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Lunin’s future have raised concern at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid want to avoid being caught off guard, and have therefore begun evaluating potential reinforcements for the position.
Diogo Costa, 25, has firmly established himself as a key figure for both Porto and the Portuguese national team. His profile is highly regarded at Valdebebas, and although there are no formal negotiations underway, Jorge Mendes’ influence could open the door to future talks.
The superagent has already explored interest from Premier League clubs and recently reached out to Real Madrid’s top management to propose the goalkeeper as a strategic signing.
At present, a transfer is not under immediate consideration, but Juni Calafat has started monitoring Costa’s performances closely.
Real Madrid value both his current level and long-term potential, aware that goalkeepers often maintain top form well into their mid-30s. Costa could ultimately become a key part of the club’s succession plan to secure the position for the years ahead.
