In the last couple of weeks, Real Madridnow led by Jose Mourinho – have been very busy on the transfer front. Deals to sign Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries have already been agreed and finalised, and they are now closing in on signing number three.

Mourinho has been heavily involved in the transfer process behind the scenes, which is a stark contrast to his predecessor. This has never been made clear as much as in the case of Bernardo Silva, whose signing was originally ruled out by the Real Madrid hierarchy, but now, he is on the verge of a move to the Bernabeu.

In contrast to those within Real Madrid, Mourinho has been pushing hard for Silva to be signed, and he’s about to get his wish. As per Fabrizio Romano (via CaughtOffside), a deal is close to being done for the ex-Manchester City midfielder to arrive at the Bernabeu.

A couple of weeks ago, it had appeared certain that Silva would join either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid. Both clubs had been pressing for his signature, but a late swoop from Real Madrid has changed things, and barring any last minute surprises, they would complete a sensational hijacking over their two big rivals.

What will Silva bring to Real Madrid?

Since the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, there has been a distinct lack of leadership in the Real Madrid dressing room – which is one of reasons why there has been such in-fighting. Silva will bring that as well as experience of having played at the highest level over the last 10 years at Man City, with whom he won everything.

Silva will also provide solid midfield depth, which is needed due to the expected departure of Dani Ceballos. Furthermore, he can provide an option on the right side of attack, where Real Madrid have been lacking in the absence of the injured Rodrygo Goes.
