Next year is a big one for international football, with the United States set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A host of top club managers, including former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, have already signed deals with national teams, ahead of the World Cup.

But the buck doesn’t stop there. Several national teams are also looking to strengthen their foundation by poaching analysts and coaches from the youth division of various clubs.

Unfortunately, one of the victims could be Real Madrid themselves.

Morocco set to sign Abian Perdomo

As reported by MARCA, Abian Perdomo, the head of training and methodology at Real Madrid, is on the verge of joining the Moroccan national team setup.

The Canary Islander, who has been part of Los Blancos since 2012, is said to be finalising his move to the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), where he will take on a major developmental role.

Morocco’s move reflects the nation’s ambition to build on its recent success, having reached the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup and winning the U-20 World Cup this year.

Perdomo will work alongside Moroccan legend Fathi Jamal to further enhance the country’s grassroots structure and reduce dependence on dual-national players from Europe.

Perdomo’s resume makes him one of the most respected figures at Valdebebas. Having spent 13 years at Madrid and three at Atletico before that, he is credited with helping develop stars like Nico Paz and for serving as a key link between the academy and the first team.

He even joined Carlo Ancelotti’s staff during the 2021/22 season, contributing to the club’s Champions League and La Liga triumphs.

Perdomo’s loss could be a difficult one for Real Madrid, especially at a time when Los Blancos were hoping to compete with La Masia in terms of talent development.
