Matchday 4 of La Liga ended with new controversies, one of them involving Real Madrid. Referee Jesus Gil Manzano sent off Dean Huijsen just after the half-hour mark against Real Sociedad for bringing down Mikel Oyarzabal on the run.

The decision sparked major controversy as the referee deemed it a last-man challenge even though Eder Militao was close by and in a position to cover while the VAR did not intervene at all.

Xabi Alonso already expressed his displeasure with what had happened after Real Madrid went on to win the game 2-1 at the Reale Arena.

Players concerned

Now, according to journalist Edu Aguirre on El Chiringuito TV, the decision from referee Gil Manzano sparked strong reactions from the Real Madrid players in the dressing room.

After the match, the phrase repeated most often inside the Real Madrid locker room was allegedly, “They are coming for us,” as players felt a series of serious decisions were being made against them.

The journalist highlighted some players are “scared” as they feel “they are working hard, but they are not being allowed to.”

The War with referees continues

Real Madrid have been waging a battle against Spanish refereeing for some time, with Real Madrid TV leading the complaints.

Following the latest controversy against Real Sociedad, it has been reported that the Merengues intend on sending a formal report to FIFA about the state and standard of refereeing in La Liga.

The report will include the names of referees that, in the club’s opinion, have harmed the club.

In addition, it will also contain comparative statistics between Real Madrid and Barcelona, highlighting sending-offs, penalties awarded, fouls, and lost points where Los Blancos feel they have been clearly disadvantaged.
