Arda Guler has opened up about his growing confidence and role at Real Madrid under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Speaking ahead of the team’s second FIFA Club World Cup match against Pachuca, the young Turkish midfielder expressed his excitement over the coaching change and his increased involvement on the pitch.
“I feel more important because he always talks to me,” Guler said of Xabi Alonso. “In the first game, I played 45 minutes, so everything seems better.”
He highlighted how the new system suits his game, especially with Alonso’s focus on controlling possession and using short passes. “He sees me as a midfielder, and that’s better for me,” Guler added.

Although Guler made it clear that his current focus is on Real Madrid, he was honest about his expectations.
“For now, I haven’t thought about leaving, but of course if I don’t play, I think about everything,” he admitted. “For now, I’m totally focused on Real Madrid.”
When asked about his role, Guler was firm, stating, “I haven’t spoken about it, but I’m going to try to play.” His goal for the season remains unchanged: “To play as much as possible and win all the trophies.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s match, Guler gave credit to their opponents. “Pachuca are a good team. If they’re here, it’s for a reason. But we’re going to try to win, and we’re ready.”
Reflecting on the 1-1 draw with Al Hilal, he acknowledged the team’s improvement in the second half. “In the second half, we did better. New things take time, but we’re going to try to do our best,” he concluded.
