Credit to Fichajes for breaking the story that has quickly set tongues wagging across Europe. Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi, under contract until 2026, is now firmly on Real Madrid’s radar. The Spanish giants had reportedly been tracking Ibrahima Konaté, yet according to the report, “the fact that Guéhi could arrive on a free transfer makes him a more attractive option.”

The 25-year-old has developed into one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders, earning plaudits for his aggressive duelling, recovery pace and calm distribution. Fichajes note that “his leadership as Palace captain has strengthened his standing in the polls.” That point cannot be overstated. Madrid are not just looking for depth, they want personality.
With his contract winding down and an apparent refusal to renew, Guéhi is now in a position of extraordinary leverage. Come January, he can legally open talks with overseas clubs. Madrid know that waiting too long could spark an all-out bidding war.
The same report claims “before his move to Madrid, Guéhi was very close to signing for Liverpool, but the transfer was halted by Palace’s blockages.” That is a remarkable revelation. It signals that top-level English interest already exists, and may well be reignited.
Bayern Munich are also mentioned as contenders, impressed by his blend of physicality and composure. Barcelona are in the conversation too, although their financial gymnastics continue to limit their ability to close deals.
What makes Guéhi so valuable is not just the fee, or lack of it, but his readiness. Fichajes state clearly, “his decision will depend on the sporting project presented to him: guaranteed minutes, realistic aspirations, and a solid environment will be key.” That line hints at a player who will not accept a bench role merely for the prestige of a grand badge.
At Madrid, he may see a pathway with veterans ageing and Carlo Ancelotti seeking depth. At Liverpool or Bayern, he may see immediate starting opportunities. Whoever can promise responsibility will win.
“Marc Guéhi isn’t just a free transfer, but a promising new player.” That final line from the report encapsulates the value on offer. Free agents rarely arrive with this profile.
This is unreal news for Palace fans, and not necessarily in a bad way. Yes, losing Guéhi would hurt, but seeing him linked directly with Real Madrid is a badge of honour. It proves what we have known for a while. Our captain is Champions League level. Let them all talk about Bellingham and Mbappé, Guéhi is out here getting spoken about as a Galáctico.
If he does go, I want it done properly. None of this free transfer nonsense. Make Madrid sweat, make them pay early. If he is allowed to run down his deal, it better be because he is staying to guide us into Europe one last time.
