As we approach the business end of the campaign, it is seemingly evident that Real Madrid have given up on their La Liga and are focusing more on the season ahead.

One of the key tasks for Los Blancos before the summer is to announce the contract renewal of Vinicius Jr., one of the club’s top players.

Real Madrid have been locked in contract talks with Vinicius for a while now, with the Brazilian’s hefty salary terms making it difficult for the two parties to reach an agreement.

However, a lot of progress has been made since the exit of Xabi Alonso and the two sides appear to be on the verge of finding a breakthrough.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with Vinicius Jr. over his contract extension.

The Brazilian’s current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in 2027, and the deal is set to secure his long-term future at the club.

While the Sky Sports journalist does add that final details are still yet to be sorted out, the agreement is in place and should be announced soon.

A report earlier this week had stated that Real Madrid are expected to announce the Vinicius renewal before the forward jets out to North America for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Plettenberg, meanwhile, adds that despite the contract extension, Kylian Mbappe will remain the highest earner at Real Madrid.

That means Los Blancos have not agreed to Vinicius’ initial proposal of being on the same pay scale as the French international. However, the club may have likely made some concessions as well, especially with the way the forward performed under Alvaro Arbeloa.
