Real Madrid have had a difficult time lately, with a series of injuries absolutely decimating their options in the defensive unit.

Following Eder Militao’s latest ACL injury, coach Carlo Ancelotti has Antonio Rudiger as the only trusted option at centre-back, which has forced Real Madrid to scour for defensive options ahead of the January transfer window.

David Alaba could return soon

However, in a rare boost, it appears Real Madrid could soon be blessed with the return of long-time absentee David Alaba.

The Austrian international has not played for Real Madrid in La Liga since December of last year and has been out with a cruciate ligament tear.

But according to El Chiringuito, Alaba could return to team training in just two weeks, which will mark a crucial step in his eventual return to the pitch.

This comes shortly after recent reports, which suggested that the veteran centre-back is going to extreme lengths in order to fast-track his return.

Alaba’s return could serve as a massive boon for Real Madrid, offering Ancelotti with a much-needed partner for Rudiger at centre-back.

When can Real Madrid expect Alaba back?

The Austrian had notably resumed training with the ball earlier this month and it appears he could return to full training by the start of December.

Providing he does return to team training in that time frame, it won’t be surprising to see the veteran defender eventually start appearing in matches in early January.

Real Madrid, though, are likely to exercise utmost caution, knowing they cannot afford to worsen Alaba’s condition, especially after what the defender has gone through over the past year or so.

If everything goes well, Alaba should appear prominently for Real Madrid from January onwards.
