Real Madrid recently made their stance on transfer protocols very clear. They intend to protect their squad from aggressive moves by European rivals. A major report from Fichajes shows that the Spanish giants turned down a huge financial package from Manchester City for Rodrygo.
Pep Guardiola apparently sees the Brazilian international as a player with the right tactical brain for his team. He believes Rodrygo has the composure needed to succeed in his demanding system.
So, the Premier League side put forward a proposal worth €80 million. However, the way they structured the bid caused immediate tension at the Santiago Bernabéu. City offered a guaranteed payment of only €60 million. They linked the other €20 million to performance goals and extra add-ons.
Florentino Perez rejected this conditional offer almost instantly. He has a strict rule against deals that rely too much on incentives for his key players. The Real Madrid president insists that any club that wants Rodrygo must pay the full €80 million as a fixed, guaranteed amount.
By saying no to the variable offer, the club are showing their strength in negotiations. This stops other teams from thinking they can sign top stars through complicated, performance-based payments.
As a result, Manchester City have a clear choice to make. They have to come back with a simple, all-cash bid if they really want to sign the Brazilian winger. Real Madrid won’t listen to offers that undervalue their players or add unnecessary financial risk. They are making sure their stars leave only on their own terms. Meanwhile, reports in the earlier summer transfer window claimed that Real Madrid wanted £100 million for the Brazilian winger, and Spurs wanted to sign him as well.

Keeping the 24-year-old makes perfect sense for Real Madrid. This is true even with the talk about his up-and-down form lately. The Brazilian forward offers a specific style that lets Xabi Alonso use him anywhere across the front line. That kind of flexibility is a lifesaver during a busy season.
Beyond that, Real Madrid would be making a huge mistake if they took a guaranteed fee of only €60 million. Rodrygo has proven himself in the Champions League and always shows up in the biggest moments.
If Los Blancos sell him for less than he is worth, then it would seriously hurt the team’s depth. Florentino Perez did the right thing by sticking to a fixed price. Relying on bonuses often leaves the selling club waiting on things they cannot control.
Real Madrid need to keep holding this line. Rodrygo’s brand and long-term potential are worth considerably more than the offer currently on the table. Plus, finding a replacement who understands what it means to play for Real Madrid would probably cost a fortune. It would cost much more than the guaranteed part of City’s bid.
Even though the player has to fight for his minutes, having him there ensures the team has elite talent in every attacking spot. If Los Blancos agreed to City’s current terms, they would effectively lower the market standard for their own stars.
The club should only think about a sale if a buyer meets their valuation with a clean, direct payment. Rodrygo remains a key part of Madrid’s hunt for trophies until a buying club demonstrates that level of financial commitment.
