A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid could be afforded a place back in the club’s starting XI for their meeting with Stade Brestois on Wednesday.

As much was confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti this evening, the Italian having pointed towards David Alaba as the player in question.

Defender Alaba is for his part of course fresh off his long-awaited return to the pitch.

After over a year on the sidelines recovering from an ACL injury, the Austrian marked his comeback on January 19th, managing 15 minutes in a La Liga meeting with Las Palmas.

This was followed by a further half hour against RB Salzburg, and 25 minutes over the weekend, as Real Madrid made short work of Real Valladolid.

Alaba, across these outings, did not miss a step, looking remarkably sharp for a player fresh off such an extended absence.

And, safe to say, the significance of as much has not been at all lost on the coaching staff at Valdebebas.

This comes amid confirmation that Alaba has been pencilled in to start one of the club’s next two fixtures, against either Brest or Espanyol:

“David Alaba may be a starter tomorrow,” Carlo Ancelotti explained to Movistar. “We are thinking about it. But, if not, he will be in the next match.”
