A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has emerged as one of the club’s biggest concerns ahead of the new season.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Ferland Mendy as the player in question.

Left-back Mendy has of course seen his future thrown into doubt this summer, owing to a combination of ongoing fitness woes, a dip in performance, and the arrival of Álvaro Carreras at Real Madrid.

With Fran García fresh off an impressive showing at the Club World Cup, the former Lyon man, upon his return from injury, could in turn find himself as third-choice in new boss Xabi Alonso’s squad.

And herein lies the problem for Los Blancos.

Mendy, it is understood, has made clear to those behind the scenes in Spain’s capital that he has no intention of departing before the summer is out.

The 30-year-old, aging and with a considerable wage packet to his name, could in be facing up to a minimal role this coming season.

As per a report from AS, Mendy, as a result, ‘has become one of Real Madrid’s main problems’.
