Those in a position of power at La Liga giants Real Madrid have not ruled out the possibility of allowing a headline member of the club’s defensive ranks to depart next summer.
That’s according to ESPN, who point towards Antonio Rüdiger as the player in question.
Stopper Rüdiger is for his part of course fresh off an altogether difficult opening to the new campaign.
Amid efforts to secure for himself a starting berth under the watch of new manager Xabi Alonso, the German suffered an injury setback which looks set to keep him sidelined for several months.
Even prior to as much, though, murmurs had long begun to spread that Dean Huijsen and Éder Militão were considered Real’s first-choice centre-back pairing when all players are fit and available.
In turn, it should perhaps not come as a major surprise to learn that Rüdiger could be on the move in the near future.
As per a report from ESPN:
‘Real Madrid is eyeing the central defender market because the Whites’ plans include David Alaba leaving the Bernabéu when his contract expires in 2026, while the departure of Antonio Rüdiger is also not ruled out.’
