Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has early this week reiterated his support for Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal.
This comes owing to developments in the recent international friendly meeting between Spain and Egypt.
En route to a goalless draw between the two countries last week, sections of the home Spanish fans in attendance took aim at their nation’s opponents, through chants against the Muslims at the RCDE Stadium.
The aforementioned Lamine, a Muslim himself, was left understandably offended by the chants.
This led the 18-year-old to take to social media in the game’s aftermath, to reveal his frustration and ask for better from fans.
And as alluded to above, a week on, Lamine has received some high-profile backing.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media on Monday, Real Madrid winger Vinícius Jr. made use of the opportunity to explain:
“I hope Lamine can continue this fight against racism as well. We have money, but poor black people have more difficulties than we do. I’m not saying that Spain, Germany, or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in every country, and if we fight together, hopefully other players and people will stop suffering these things.”
