The international break got over almost as soon as it got underway for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that the 26-year-old goalkeeper had been released by the Ukrainian national team due to a back problem.

However, allaying any fears surrounding his injury, AS now reports that Lunin will be 100% fit and available when Real Madrid take on Real Sociedad after the international break.

The shot-stopper was understood to have sustained the discomfort this past weekend just before Real Madrid’s game against Mallorca, but still travelled to join up with his national team camp.

Ukraine are scheduled to face France and Azerbaijan in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and it was expected that manager Serhiy Rebrov will count on Lunin.

However, upon the goalkeeper’s arrival in Ukraine, it was deemed that he had not fully recovered from the lower back issue and as such was sent back to Spain to complete his recovery and heal properly.

Now, the belief is that Lunin will not have any problems in being ready in time for Real Madrid’s trip to San Sebastian to face Real Sociedad on 13 September.

The Ukrainian international, who has a contract with Los Blancos until 2030, has not played a single minute of football this season, with Thibaut Courtois being the undisputed choice in goal.

There were clubs interested in signing him during the summer transfer window, but Lunin and Real Madrid decided not to part ways with each other.
