The aftermath of Real Madrid’s win over Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu was dominated not by the goals scored, but by the ones that were disallowed.
On Real Madrid TV, the club’s official channel, the panelists could not hide their anger as three Madrid goals were ruled out, sparking another heated debate about refereeing decisions in La Liga.
“I still don’t believe this competition. Regardless of whether they change their name, their actions are the same,” began one of the commentators.
They went on to add: “One more matchday, we return to the past and to LaLiga Negreira. Three goals disallowed against Madrid in one match.
“It is the third time that it has happened since there is VAR and all three have been to Real Madrid. Coincidence or not, that’s the question.”
The decisions that caused the most outrage were the disallowed opener from Kylian Mbappe, ruled offside, and Arda Guler’s strike that was cancelled for a supposed handball in the build-up.
The panelists were especially furious with the lack of clarity in the images provided. “The image of the first goal disallowed to Mbappe is a joke in bad taste.
“Someone has decided to play a joke on all of us. In 2025 there has to be an image that shows whether or not it is offside,” they argued.
Attention then shifted to Guler’s disallowed goal, which could have given Madrid a 3-1 lead. None of the analysts agreed with the referee’s decision.
“That’s why you can’t disallow a goal. It is doubtful that it hits him in the arm and he is in a natural position if he hits it, but there is also no continuous action.
“If the ball had gone directly to goal, it would be well disallowed, but there is a rebound from the goalkeeper. It’s absurd.”
The comparisons with other competitions were also raised. “Why do we have this real slop system and not the Club World Cup?
“The Club World Cup is a serious competition and this is La Liga Negreira. People are already leaving the platforms,” one panellist complained.
Jesus Alcaide, director of Real Madrid TV, summed up the feeling: “In all the statistical anomalies, Real Madrid is harmed and Barcelona benefits.
“There are those who think that we should get rid of all this, there are those who think so.”
Lastly, Antonio Esteva reminded viewers of last season’s figures: “The referees live very comfortably.
“If VAR hadn’t been applied last year, Madrid would have been champions. In total, Madrid have been the most affected by VAR last season,” he noted.
