There is a growing sense within Real Madrid that a major change is unavoidable this summer, and understandably, the spotlight is on Alvaro Arbeloa.

After a campaign that has fallen well below expectations, the club’s leadership is now leaning towards a managerial reset as part of a wider rebuild.

Reports from MARCA suggest that Arbeloa continuing in charge is now viewed internally as highly unlikely.

While no official decision has been announced yet, the conclusion drawn is that performances and results simply have not matched the standards expected at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Another poor season for Real Madrid

For what it is worth, this situation is not just about one coach, as the entire 2025/26 project has struggled to find stability.

To begin with, the earlier appointment of Xabi Alonso failed to deliver consistency, and the subsequent switch has not produced the turnaround the club had hoped for.

As a result, Real Madrid are now carrying out a full internal review ahead of the summer window.

One of the key concerns has been the team’s inability to control big matches.

Against top European opposition, Madrid have often looked second best, particularly in midfield where intensity and structure have been lacking.

At the back, recurring defensive issues have forced Thibaut Courtois to play a decisive role far too often, masking deeper problems rather than solving them.

Time for a change?

The lack of consistent wins in high-profile fixtures has only reinforced the need for change.

For a club that measures success in trophies and dominance, falling short in such moments has raised serious questions about both tactical direction and squad balance.

To his credit, Arbeloa has handled the uncertainty with professionalism.

In fact, the former defender is understood to be fully aware of the situation and has no intention of complicating matters, leaving the final decision entirely in the hands of the club.

Looking ahead, with only a handful of games remaining, the season is all but finished for Real Madrid, as only a miracle can bring them closer to winning the La Liga title.
