Madrid are set to be without star men for crucial European clash
Manchester City take on Real Madrid tonight in a blockbuster Champions League clash.
Pep Guardiola’s men will make their second trip to the Spanish capital this term, having already beaten Madrid 2-1 in the league phase of this competition earlier in the season.
Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland both were on the scoresheet as the Premier League outfit stole all three points, but they are out for a place in the quarter-finals here.
Madrid are second in the league - like City in the English top flight - and are four points shy of Barcelona in the La Liga title race.
Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have stumbled in recent weeks, falling to defeats against Osasuna and Getafe.
They beat Benfica in a dramatic play-off to reach the first knockout stage here.
Real Madrid vs Man City is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off tonight, Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The match will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 7pm GMT ahead of an 8pm kick-off.
Live stream: TNT Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport’s live blog.
For the hosts, the big news is that they are set to be without Kylian Mbappe once more.
The Frenchman missed the first game between these two teams back in December and continues to be troubled by a left knee problem.
He has been in Paris seeing a specialist in recent days, and returned to the grass for some light running with a fitness coach on Monday, although did not partake in team training and continued to work separately on Tuesday.
He remains on a lengthy injury list that also includes Alvaro Carreras, who is out with a calf problem, Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, Dani Ceballos and David Alaba.
Antonio Rudiger and Eduardo Camavinga have returned to training after their respective absences.
For City, Erling Haaland was rested against Newcastle in the FA Cup, with Guardiola keeping one eye on this game and the Premier League title race.
Haaland has trained as normal since and should start at the Bernabeu. Nico O’Reilly limped off in the win at Leeds, but returned at St James’ Park.
Otherwise, the visitors are without their longer-term absentees, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic. Max Alleyne is also out.
This is a tough one to call, but if you look at the form books, you would side with City.
Not just from a head to head perspective, but from their recent form as well.
They had their blip against Nottingham Forest in midweek, but rectified that quickly with a strong performance from a second-string side on Tyneside at the weekend.
