Despite acquiring the services of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer, Real Madrid’s plans in the transfer market are far from over.

The club have been linked with numerous players throughout the course of the past few months, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Florian Wirtz and Rodri emerging as potential targets.

Here, at Madrid Universal, we will take a look at four players from the Premier League who Real Madrid are targeting for and how they could fit into Carlo Ancelotti’s setup.

Trent Alexander-Arnold tops the list

Leading the pack is Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is set to expire next summer.

The England international has been a standout performer for Liverpool, and his potential availability on a free transfer makes him a top target for Real Madrid.

Known for his attacking prowess and incredible passing range, Alexander-Arnold could be an ideal long-term replacement for the ageing Dani Carvajal.

Not to mention, the Englishman is known for his ability to provide darting crosses into the box, which, coupled with his pace and athleticism, could make him an ideal addition to Real Madrid’s direct style of football.

Alexander-Arnold also shares a close friendship with Jude Bellingham, who may play a crucial role in the transfer saga. The potential to reunite with Bellingham, after all, could be an enticing factor for the 25-year-old defender.

Rodri – the next midfield general?

The Spanish giants are also keen on Manchester City’s Rodri, who has been instrumental in his club’s success and Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024.

Rodri has been a long-time target for Real Madrid, as they look to find a midfield general following Toni Kroos’ retirement.

Rodri’s composure, defensive acumen, and ability to control the tempo make him one of the most sought-after midfielders in world football.

Moreover, his leadership and experience could add some much-needed balance to the Real Madrid midfield, especially knowing Luka Modric’s long association with the club could come to an end in 2025.

Manchester City, though, won’t make things easy for Los Blancos. Aware of Real Madrid’s interest, the Premier League giants are reportedly working on an improved contract for the 28-year-old to fend off any potential suitors.

William Saliba and Cristian Romero

Another weak point Real Madrid must address next summer is the central defensive unit.

Injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao, coupled with worries over Antonio Rudiger’s condition have indicated that Real Madrid lack depth in the position.

Securing reinforcements in the central defensive unit, therefore, could be paramount.

To that end, Real Madrid may go after two Premier League defenders in the form of William Saliba and Cristian Romero.

Both are contracted until 2027, making any potential deal more challenging. Saliba, in particular, has drawn the attention of Madrid’s scouting department, with his performances being pivotal in Arsenal’s recent Premier League title challenge.

Romero, a World Cup winner with Argentina, is also on the radar, though Saliba is seen as the preferred option due to his ability to control the ball and play out from the back.

Romero, too, is no slouch and can be an excellent defensive partner for someone like Rudiger or Militao. At just 26, the Argentine even has the potential to become a defensive leader for Los Blancos in the years to come.

Real Madrid even asked about the Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain this past summer but the north London outfit made it clear that the defender was not for sale. However, Los Blancos could return for him in 2025.

With Real Madrid looking to bolster their squad further, the summer of 2025 could see more blockbuster signings arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu.
