Real Madrid’s Upcoming 2026 Purge

Artikelbild:Real Madrid’s Upcoming 2026 Purge

This summer is shaping up to be a very crucial one for Real Madrid. The major topic is the number of Real Madrid players leaving in 2026 from the club because they have run their course. After a disappointing season which saw their second trophyless campaign in a row, Florentino Pérez is planning a great purge that will see many players leave.

The world watched Xabi Alonso’s highly anticipated tenure end prematurely by January. Then they saw Castilla manager Álvaro Arbeloa step into the managerial hot seat to try and salvage the campaign. Despite that change, they conceded the La Liga title to Barca in an El Clásico defeat as they fell 14 points behind. Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich dumped Madrid out of the Champions League after a humbling 6-4 aggregate defeat. Along with that, an inferior side in Albacete also knocked them out of the Copa Del Rey.

Change is needed and I can’t stress it enough. The El Clásico defeat has to be the last straw. This team cannot continue playing together.

Real Madrid Players Leaving in 2026: No Renewals

The big two in Spanish soccer – Real Madrid and FC Barcelona – have never seen eye to eye, but at least one thing they can both agree on is their terrible defense. Below are three massive names who should not play beyond June 30, 2026, and it looks like they won’t be granted further renewals.

David Alaba

Nobody is doubting what Alaba has done for this club. But since his devastating ACL injury in August 2025, his body has continuously let him down.

He is 33 years old, his market value has plummeted to around $3.5 million, and he has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch. Real Madrid’s policy with players over 30 is strict. Given his high wages and physical decline, it is essentially confirmed by multiple outlets that Alaba will not be offered an extension. He will leave as a free agent this June.

Antonio Rüdiger

Rash and reckless, Rüdiger was the undisputed heart of the defense for three years. But the reality of the 2025/2026 campaign is that he has only managed 17 La Liga appearances due to persistent muscular injuries.

At 33 years old, extending him is a massive financial risk. With Real Madrid actively targeting defenders on free transfers to pair with Éder Militão and last summer’s signing Dean Huijsen, Rüdiger’s time at the Bernabéu seems to be naturally expiring.

Dani Carvajal

Carvajal is 34. He is a club legend through and through. But the club has already prepared for his departure by bringing in Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer. Carvajal has struggled to stay fit for a full 90 minutes this season.

As of writing he is still injured and missed out on the Clásico. While there is a slim chance Florentino Pérez offers him a heavily reduced one-year legacy extension, purely from a sporting perspective, the transition needs to happen now. Real Madrid cannot afford to hold onto aging fullbacks in modern soccer.

Real Madrid Players Leaving in 2026: Deadwood

Moving on from the ones out of contract, we have the players who are simply taking up valuable squad registration spots. These are the players who need to be sold to generate pure profit.

Dani Ceballos

We’ve been having the “Dani Ceballos will leave this summer” conversation for what feels like half a decade. Now 29 years old, Ceballos has reportedly asked to leave in the last two consecutive summers.

He wants regular playing time, and a move to Real Betis is heavily rumored. He provides decent depth, but with the depth in midfield, there is zero reason to keep a disgruntled player who only sees the pitch during domestic cup rotations. Reportedly, he is also the suspected “mole” inside the locker room, leaking team news and reports to the press.

Fran García OR Ferland Mendy

The left-back situation is a mess.

Fran García is under contract until 2027, but he has completely lost his spot. With Álvaro Carreras brought back from Benfica last summer and dominating the flank, García is surplus to requirements.

Then you have Ferland Mendy. The club officially transfer-listed Mendy following yet another muscle injury during the Champions League tie against Manchester City earlier this year, according to recent reports.

Mendy is brilliant defensively when fit, but the key phrase there is “when fit.” He is unreliable, and Real Madrid cannot mount a 60-game campaign relying on a left-back made of glass. Cash in now while he still has market value.

Either of these two left backs should definitely be one of the Real Madrid players leaving in 2026.

Raúl Asencio

Raul Asencio’s attitude in the dressing room is apparently quite foul. The 23-year-old center-back signed a deal until 2031 and looked like a great academy prospect. But recent reports from The Athletic reveal a massive falling out between Asencio and Arbeloa. The club mysteriously omitted Asencio from the squad against Munich, supposedly due to illness, despite his normal training. Arbeloa froze him out of the matchday squad for several games until he apologized.

If Arbeloa is backed as the manager for the 26/27 season, Asencio is highly likely to be sold or loaned out to keep the dressing room harmony intact. Even if that’s not the case, Asencio short-lived fairytale spell from Academy to the First Team might have run its course now.

Real Madrid Players Leaving in 2026: The Big One

According to top journalists, Eduardo Camavinga is no longer considered “non-transferable.” The 23-year-old French international, who many thought was part of the untouchable core, could be available for around $55 million this summer.

Why would Real Madrid sell Camavinga, you may ask? Well, he hasn’t reached anywhere close to the potential people thought he had when he signed over 5 years ago. He still hasn’t established himself as a starter, and is reckless when coming off the bench.

With Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde cementing the advanced roles, and Aurélien Tchouaméni anchoring the pivot, coaches have often pushed Camavinga into the left-back role where his immense midfield talents are wasted.

Furthermore, Los Blancos are actively pursuing a sensational move for Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who has reportedly told Manchester City that he will not extend his contract beyond 2027. If Madrid wants to fund a mega-move for Rodri to come, selling Camavinga to the Premier League could be an option.

The summer of 2026 is shaping up to a ruthless transfer window in the club’s modern history. Two back-to-back trophyless seasons for a team like Real Madrid is unacceptable. Watch out, because the World Cup will not be the only soccer action happening this summer because the Bernabeu will have it’s own internal battles.
