According to Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad’s contingent endured a tough World Cup start, with no wins and several unused substitutes. There is still time to change course.
Mikel Oyarzabal was the only txuri-urdin to complete Spain’s 0-0 opener, forcing a fine save from Vozinha with a header.
Take Kubo started for Japan, assisted Nakamura and was forced off after a blow to his left knee from Dumfries in the draw with the Netherlands.
He left in a wheelchair and a scan ruled out serious damage, but he will miss the next two group games against Tunisia and Sweden, so his World Cup could end if Japan do not progress.
Portugal drew 1-1 with Congo, and Gonçalo Guedes did not play despite a recent friendly goal against Chile. Joao Félix and Trincao were also unused.
Portugal face Uzbekistan on Tuesday needing a first win, with Colombia top after beating Uzbekistan.
Luka Sucic did not feature in Croatia’s defeat by England, Dalic chose Pasalic, Modric and Petar Sucic, then turned to Kovacic and Kramaric. Caleta-Car, whose Real deal ends on the 30th, was also unused as Gvardiol, Vuskovic and Sutalo started. Croatia meet Panama on Wednesday, who lost by a single goal to Ghana.
Real will monitor their players to set pre-season return dates. None of the four realistas will report for the 4 July restart, and returns will be staggered before the league weekend of 15-16 August. For that to happen, they will have to start winning.
