Substituted due to injury in the 8th minute of Saturday’s Premier League match between Brighton and Liverpool (2-1), Hugo Ekitike (23) is reported to have suffered only a minor thigh strain, according to Foot Mercato.

Some relatively reassuring news, in stark contrast to the tears seen on the Reds’ striker’s face as he was subbed out for Curtis Jones (25). Pending further tests, which will provide a clearer picture of how long he might be out of action, Arne Slot can therefore breathe a sigh of relief, with some crucial fixtures looming for Liverpuldians.

Currently fifth in the table and battling for a Champions League qualification spot, Liverpool will also face Paris Saint-Germain on 8th and 14th April as they aim to secure a place in the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition. Tasks for which Ekitike will be more than valuable, having scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions this season.

Statistics that he could well improve upon during the international break, having been selected by Didier Deschamps for friendly matches against Brazil and Colombia in the United States.
