Lanús will meet Flamengo in the Recopa Sudamericana, a two-legged tie scheduled for February.
According to SuperDepor.com, Lanús host the first leg at 21:30 Argentina time on Thursday 19 February at the Néstor Díaz Pérez stadium in the south of Greater Buenos Aires. Flamengo then play the return at the Maracanã on Thursday 26 February at the same time.
Lanús qualified as Copa Sudamericana champions after beating Atlético Mineiro on penalties. Flamengo, coached by Filipe Luis, reached the Recopa by defeating Palmeiras in the Libertadores final.
First staged in 1989, the competition’s most recent champions are Racing, who beat Brazil’s Botafogo 4-0 on aggregate.
This is Lanús’s second Recopa appearance. They were runners-up to Atlético Mineiro in 2014, losing 5-3 on aggregate after a 1-0 home defeat and a 4-3 loss in the return after extra time. The Granate are chasing the ninth trophy in their history and a fourth international title.
Flamengo make their third appearance. They won the 2020 edition by defeating Independiente del Valle 5-2, but in 2023 the Ecuadorian side prevailed on penalties, 5-4.
