Manchester United are set to hijack Brentford's attempts to sign Metz teenage sensation Idrissa Gueye.
The Bees recently sold star forward Bryan Mbeumo to the Red Devils, in a deal which could be worth up to £71million, but the Bees now face competition from United for 18-year-old Senegal international Gueye.
New Brentford boss Keith Andrews thought he had stolen a march on his rivals, in terms of a deal for the teenager, who helped Metz win promotion to Ligue 1 from the French second tier last term.
However, United and Burnley have since entered the race, alongside Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.
The growing interest has pushed Brentford’s hierarchy to consider matching Metz’s £15m valuation.
Brentford can promise Gueye a quicker pathway to senior Premier League action, whereas United reportedly view him as one for the future.
The teenager only moved to Ligue 2 side Metz from Senegalese club Génération Foot in January, making his debut in a 0-0 stalemate with Lorient.
He went on to score five goals for the French side in league play, also supplying a single assist.
