The fallout from the Madrid derby refuses to settle, and now a fresh development has added even more tension to the situation.

Real Madrid secured a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, but the debate surrounding Federico Valverde’s red card continues to dominate the narrative.

Now, according to recent revelations from El Chiringuito TV, the refereeing body in Spain is standing behind the original decision made during the match.

Reports indicate that the Technical Committee of Referees sees no issue with the call and is expected to support the interpretation made by Jose Luis Munuera Montero during their upcoming review session.

The incident came late in the match, when Valverde was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Alex Baena.

Munuera Montero signalled his decision without hesitation before going on to explain his reasoning both to the player and to Alvaro Arbeloa.

Despite that explanation, the decision has been heavily contested from Madrid’s side.

The club is preparing to formally appeal the red card, as there is a feeling that the punishment was excessive.

Real Madrid feel that the challenge did not warrant a sending-off and should have been punished with a yellow card at most.

At the boardroom level, there is a growing sense that officiating inconsistencies are affecting not just Real Madrid but also the competition when compared to rivals like Barcelona.

For now, however, the immediate consequence is unavoidable. Valverde is set to miss the upcoming La Liga fixture against Mallorca, and depending on how the disciplinary process unfolds, he could also be ruled out of the clash with Girona.

With the title race entering a decisive phase, losing a player of Valverde’s influence, even temporarily, could have a significant impact on Real Madrid’s run.
