Régis Le Bris says Sunderland and Enzo Le Fée are being repaid for the midfielder’s choice to leave AS Roma for a Championship move last January, with the Frenchman now past 50 games and central to an impressive Premier League campaign.
According to Sunderland Echo, the head coach views it as a strong call and feels Le Fée’s consistency this season shows he could become a great player.
Le Fée recently returned from a minor muscle issue to deliver a brief but decisive cameo at St James' Park, helping Brian Brobbey score the Tyne-Wear derby winner.
After early success together at Lorient, his progress stalled with mixed spells at Rennes and Roma, and a February injury last season raised questions over robustness. Le Bris says the midfielder has kept his level in what he regards as probably the most demanding league, performing in several roles, staying smart and connected, and embracing defensive work with purpose.
He considers Le Fée aligned to Sunderland’s identity and still improving thanks to his appetite to learn. Sunderland are hopeful the 26-year-old will be close to full fitness after the break and in contention to start against Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light on April 12th, while Nordi Mukiele, Robin Roefs and left back Reinildo could also push for starts.
