Régis Le Bris has missed out on the Premier League Manager of the Season after steering Sunderland to a historic Europa League place.

Reuters reported that Mikel Arteta was named Premier League Manager of the Year after leading Arsenal to the title, their first in 22 years.

Le Bris was among six nominees for the Barclays award after a remarkable first Premier League campaign, shortlisted with Keith Andrews, Mikel Arteta, Michael Carrick, Pep Guardiola and Andoni Iraola.

Sunderland finished seventh and will play in Europe for the first time since 1973-74, only a year after promotion via the Championship play-offs. They clinched Europa League qualification with a dramatic final-day win over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light, capping a four-year rise from League One to Europe.

Le Bris consistently played down talk of Europe, yet his side exceeded expectations and ended above Chelsea, Brentford and Brighton. They are among the few newly promoted Premier League teams to reach Europe through league position.

His nomination underlined his impact, and Sunderland now face 2026-27 across the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao, with Le Bris urging humility, hard work and improvement.
