Régis Le Bris outlines quiet Sunderland window and confirms Granit Xhaka stance is really clear | OneFootball

According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris says Sunderland are working to strengthen their squad, and he also set out a firm stance on Granit Xhaka’s future.

The Black Cats lost 4-2 to Liverpool in their second pre-season friendly in Nashville on Saturday evening.

So far Thomas Meunier is their only summer arrival as Sunderland target stability. Le Bris said last week the club were looking to add three or four core players before the end of the window, potentially taking total incomings to six or seven.

After the Liverpool defeat he stressed business must be done quietly behind the scenes, adding he would not share details. He said this window differs from last season, when 14 arrived, and cautioned that it will not be the same this year. He added they will see what happens.

Le Bris addressed Xhaka’s future for the first time this summer, calling the matter closed and saying the midfielder has been really clear about his plans. Chelsea had bid to reunite him with new head coach Xabi Alonso and, though initially open to it, Xhaka told Sunderland he would stay. Le Bris also lauded him as captain and leader.

During Switzerland’s run to the World Cup quarter finals, Xhaka described Sunderland as his home, said family is paramount and that he is ready to make history with the club.
