The ball is in Montpellier HSC’s court after Stade de Reims met La Paillade’s valuation for midfielder Joris Chotard (23), according to a report from Le Parisien.
Marshall Munetsi looks set to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers before the closure of the transfer window on Monday night, according to L’Équipe. As a result, Reims are in the market for a replacement. Chotard has been identified as the priority target by Les Stadistes.
The midfielder who represented France at the Paris Olympics over the summer looked poised to leave the south of France before the start of this season as it had become increasingly clear by the end of the 2023/24 campaign that Chotard was ready to take the next step in his career.
The Frenchman ultimately remained at MHSC, somewhat against his will. A promise was made, however, that if a €6m bid arrived in January, then he would be allowed to leave. Reims have now matched that valuation. Chotard has himself agreed to move to Reims. It now remains to be seen whether Laurent Nicollin will honour his promise. Le Parisien understands that, in the wake of the offer, the Montpellier president has been uncontactable.
