The end of an era is approaching at Barcelona after Robert Lewandowski confirmed that he will leave the club once the season comes to an end.

When the Polish striker arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, there were doubts over whether a player in his mid-30s could adapt to Spanish football.

But those doubts disappeared almost immediately.

Lewandowski brought goals, leadership, experience and a winning mentality to the dressing room.

From young stars like Lamine Yamal to senior figures within the squad, the veteran forward became one of the most respected players inside the club.

Over four seasons, he helped Barcelona return to the top domestically and delivered several unforgettable moments along the way.

As his journey with the Blaugrana nears its conclusion, here is a look at five memories that will remain special for Barcelona supporters.

Pichichi in his first season

Many forwards have struggled during their first year in Spain, but Lewandowski needed almost no adjustment period.

The 2022/23 campaign immediately showed why Barcelona pushed hard to sign him.

Under former manager Xavi Hernandez, Lewandowski became the focal point of the attack and finished the league season with 23 goals in 34 matches.

What made the achievement even more impressive was the fact that he won the Pichichi Trophy without scoring a single penalty goal.

To put it in perspective, the last player to manage that feat was Dani Guiza back in the 2007/08 season.

Furthermore, it also marked the sixth consecutive domestic league season in which Lewandowski finished as the top scorer, carrying over his dominance from Germany into Spanish football.

2023 Spanish Super Cup masterclass

One of Lewandowski’s best performances in a Barcelona shirt arrived against eternal rivals Real Madrid in the 2023 Spanish Super Cup final.

Played in Riyadh, the final became a statement night for Xavi’s Barcelona project, as the Blaugrana dominated Madrid from start to finish and secured a convincing 3-1 victory.

Lewandowski played a decisive role throughout the game. Before halftime, he first provided the assist for Gavi’s opening goal before scoring Barcelona’s second himself in the 45th minute.

His overall display combined intelligence, movement and composure in possession.

More importantly, that trophy became Xavi’s first as Barcelona manager and helped restore belief around the club after several difficult seasons.

For many, that night felt like Barcelona were finally returning to where they belonged.

Breaking Messi’s Champions League record

The UEFA Champions League produced one of Lewandowski’s most historic nights in Barcelona colours during a crushing victory over Newcastle United at Camp Nou.

Barcelona dismantled Newcastle 7-2 in the second leg of their round-of-16 clash, sealing an 8-3 aggregate victory in front of a roaring home crowd.

Lewandowski once again found the net and, in doing so, achieved two remarkable milestones.

At 37 years and 209 days, he became the oldest goalscorer in Champions League history. But the bigger talking point came from another incredible statistic.

Newcastle became the 41st different opponent Lewandowski had scored against in the competition.

That allowed him to move past Lionel Messi, who had previously scored against 40 different Champions League opponents.

The iconic ‘Cold’ celebration at the Bernabeu

Some Clasico moments live forever, and Lewandowski created one of them in October 2024.

Barcelona travelled to the Santiago Bernabeu and stunned Real Madrid with a dominant 4-0 victory.

It was also the first Clasico appearance for Kylian Mbappe in Madrid colours, but the night belonged entirely to Barcelona.

Lewandowski scored twice within three minutes to completely silence the Bernabeu crowd.

The first came from a brilliant pass by young midfielder Marc Casado before the Polish striker headed home again moments later. Yet the image that stayed with fans was his celebration.

Wearing Barcelona’s special Coldplay-themed shirt as part of the club’s Spotify collaboration, Lewandowski produced his now-famous ‘cold’ celebration in front of the Madrid supporters.

The moment instantly exploded across social media and became one of the defining images of that season.

Ending with another La Liga title

There could hardly have been a better ending to Lewandowski’s Barcelona story.

The 2025/26 campaign has not always been straightforward for the veteran striker, as injuries, rotation and fluctuating playing time often made it difficult for him to maintain rhythm across the season.

Even so, he still managed to contribute 18 goals in 44 matches as of May 16, 2026.

More importantly, Barcelona are set to finish the season as La Liga champions once again, giving Lewandowski another major title before his departure.

By the time he leaves the club, the Polish forward will have collected three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups during his four-year spell in Catalonia.
