Real Madrid have come up with an ingenious plan to acquire Alvaro Carreras from Benfica without paying the hefty €60 million release clause that the Portuguese club has set for the young left-back.
According to AS, instead of negotiating directly with Benfica, Madrid intend to work with Manchester United, who have an €18 million buy-back clause on Carreras after the player moved to Benfica from the Red Devils for just €6 million.
The strategy is as follows: Real Madrid will persuade Manchester United to activate the €18 million buy-back clause, effectively bringing Carreras back to Old Trafford.
Once the Spanish full-back is back in the Premier League, Real Madrid will then pay between €30 million and €35 million to secure his services, a price far more reasonable than Benfica’s steep asking price of €60 million.
This clever tactic allows Madrid to bypass Benfica’s notoriously difficult negotiation process, which has seen other clubs struggle to secure transfers from the Lisbon-based club at a fair price.

While the 22-year-old has shown tremendous promise, the €60 million release clause has been a significant stumbling block for Los Blancos.
By involving Manchester United in the process, Real Madrid will reduce the overall cost of the deal significantly while also providing United with a profitable opportunity to sell a player they once nurtured.
This deal benefits all parties involved. Real Madrid will acquire a promising young player at a bargain price, United will earn a decent profit from a player they have no immediate use for, and Benfica will remain out of the equation entirely.
The Spanish giants are always looking for innovative ways to secure talent without breaking the bank, and this tactic represents another example of their ability to outsmart the competition in the transfer market.
If successful, Carreras could soon be lining up for Madrid, strengthening their squad for the future.
