Joao Cancelo’s return to Barcelona has been met with genuine enthusiasm inside the dressing room, with several key figures already making their feelings clear.

According to a report from Samuel Marsden of ESPN, players such as Fermin Lopez, Gavi and Ronald Araujo are among those particularly pleased to see the Portuguese full-back back in Blaugrana colours.

Cancelo has rejoined Barcelona for the second time in his career, this time on a deal worth around €4 million including wages until the end of the season.

While the move is technically short-term, it carries far more weight than a simple stopgap signing.

Having already spent the 2023–24 campaign at the club under Xavi, Cancelo is returning to an environment he knows well, which significantly reduces the need for adaptation.

Support within the dressing room

That familiarity is one of the main reasons behind the positive reaction from within the squad.

Sources speaking to ESPN have explained that Cancelo’s previous spell left a strong impression on many of his teammates.

Players such as Fermin, Gavi and Araujo value not only his technical quality, but also the attacking energy and personality he brings to the group.

Beyond the warm reception, Cancelo himself arrives with clear motivation. The Portuguese international knows that every appearance matters as he fights for a place in his national team ahead of the World Cup.

At the same time, there is a personal chapter he wants to close properly in Barcelona

Much to prove

Notably, his first loan spell ended without silverware, something that still sits uncomfortably with a player used to competing for trophies.

Cancelo has openly admitted that Barcelona hold a special place in his career. This time, he is determined to leave a lasting impact, both collectively and individually.

Furthermore, during his previous spell, Cancelo never had the chance to play at Camp Nou due to the club’s temporary move to the Olympic Stadium while renovation work was ongoing.

Now, he finally has the opportunity to represent Barcelona in their historic home, something that carries significant meaning for a player who values atmosphere and identity.
