Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo with an improved offer now surpassing £60 million. The renewed bid comes after Brentford rejected an initial approach from United reportedly worth up to £55 million. According to Sky Sports, the west London side are open to letting Mbeumo depart this summer but only if their valuation is met.
Brentford value Mbeumo, who has two years left on his deal, at more than £60 million. While they are not under pressure to sell, there is growing acceptance that the 25-year-old has earned a move to a bigger club should the price be right.
Mbeumo’s influence at Brentford has been undeniable. In the Premier League last season, he scored 20 goals, with only three players managing more. He also recorded seven assists and led the division with 202 crosses, underlining his creative threat.
“Bryan Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season to help Brentford secure a top-half finish – only three players scored more,” wrote Sky Sports Data Editor Adam Smith.
What is particularly impressive is his all-round contribution. Mbeumo clocked the fourth-fastest speed in the league at 36.63 km/h and was among the top three players for distance covered and sprints attempted. His high-energy performances consistently stretched defences and allowed Brentford to play with vertical aggression.
He also topped the league in expected assists with 9.26, suggesting that his end product could have been even more fruitful with sharper finishing from teammates.
“Factoring in decisive goals or assists that changed the outcomes of games, his 27 goal contributions earned Brentford 22 points – equating to 40 per cent of the Bees’ season tally.”

There is a growing belief at Old Trafford that Mbeumo could seamlessly slot into the system favoured by new boss Ruben Amorim. The Portugal-born coach, known for demanding high intensity from his attacking players, would benefit from Mbeumo’s pace, direct running and relentless pressing.
“Mbeumo is a player United have admired for a while and he is seen as a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s system,” reported Sky Sports.
United have already secured the services of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million deal, and the addition of Mbeumo would further increase competition for places in the final third, possibly affecting the futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
With Garnacho emerging and Bruno Fernandes occupying advanced midfield roles, United are attempting to build a frontline with movement, intelligence and physicality. Mbeumo could prove vital in that reshaping.
Tottenham Hotspur have also shown interest in Mbeumo, with Sky Sports revealing that the north London club held preliminary talks earlier in June. The appointment of Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s former boss at Brentford, has naturally intensified Spurs’ desire to bring him in.
“Mbeumo is understood to be intrigued by Spurs, who have just appointed his former boss Thomas Frank,” but as Sky Sports News notes, “one source has told Sky Sports News that as it stands he is leaning towards United.”
It is an intriguing subplot, as the player must now weigh personal relationships and familiarity at Spurs against the prestige and profile of a move to Old Trafford.

Crucially, Brentford are not adopting a hardline stance. While they are firm on valuation, there appears to be a recognition that Mbeumo has served the club exceptionally well and deserves an opportunity at a higher level.
“There is a feeling at Brentford that Mbeumo has earned the chance to move to a bigger club this summer if one meets his valuation,” reports Sky Sports.
If United are able to meet the threshold set by Brentford, a deal could progress quickly. Whether Spurs return with a more competitive offer remains to be seen, but United currently appear to be in the driving seat.
From a Manchester United supporter’s perspective, Bryan Mbeumo feels like the kind of player who has been missing at Old Trafford. He brings pace, consistent productivity and perhaps most importantly, the right mentality. Too often, recent signings have lacked the engine or edge to perform in difficult moments. Mbeumo does not shy away.
The fact that he contributed 27 goal involvements and helped secure 40 percent of Brentford’s points says everything about his ability to affect matches. United need match-winners and players who deliver in tight contests. With the addition of Cunha and the continued growth of Garnacho and Mainoo, Mbeumo could be the final piece in a new attacking puzzle under Amorim.
Some might argue £60 million is a steep price, but in this market, for a player proven in the Premier League and entering his prime, it represents a justifiable outlay. If United truly want to return to challenging for major trophies, they need footballers who deliver end product week after week. Mbeumo has shown he can do exactly that.
What also stands out is his defensive effort. He sprints, he presses, and he tracks back. That fits the mould of a modern United player under Amorim, who will demand high work rate in and out of possession. If Murtough and the recruitment team can finalise this deal, it might just be the most shrewd signing of the summer.
