Officials representing Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson have reportedly jetted out for crunch transfer talks in Turkey ahead of a possible transfer for the Brazilian.
The long-serving shot-stopper has been at the heart of City’s modern dominance, but signs are increasingly pointing toward an Etihad Stadium exit this summer alongside intensifying rumours linking his club with a deal for Burnley’s James Trafford.
With just one year remaining on his current contract and interest from multiple clubs across Europe and further afield, Manchester City are open to offers as they reshape their goalkeeping department ahead of the forthcoming 2025/26 campaign.
Interest in Ederson has emerged from both the Saudi Pro League over the last 12 months as well as European giants, but recent developments have placed Galatasaray at the forefront of the race.
The Turkish champions are actively working to reinforce their squad with UEFA Champions League football in mind, and their focus has shifted firmly onto the 31-year-old following advanced discussions internally around the structure of a deal.
For City, the potential departure would bring to an end an era of unrivalled consistency in goal. Ederson has been Pep Guardiola’s No.1 since arriving from Benfica in 2017, winning every available domestic trophy and the UEFA Champions League during his spell at the club.
However, Manchester City are prepared to sanction a move if the right offer arrives, and have already begun assessing replacements with a buy-back clause and sell-on percentage active in the deal concerning former Academy star James Trafford at Turf Moor.
As per Haber Sarikirmizi, who have covered comments made by Ertan Süzgün, a representative involved around Ederson’s career has been in negotiations with Galatasaray, centred around Manchester City’s valuation and the player’s salary demands.
As translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Süzgün said: “I learned that a representative from the management company to which Ederson is affiliated came to Istanbul.
“He held a meeting with Galatasaray officials. Manchester City’s expectation is over €10 million, while Ederson’s salary demand is around €10 million.”
Those financial figures represent a significant investment for Galatasaray, but there is a growing sense within Turkish media circles that the Süper Lig champions are serious about completing the deal.
With goalkeeper Fernando Muslera departing and Galatasaray looking to establish experience and composure at the back, Ederson is viewed as an ideal candidate to lead their defensive rebuild.
For City, the next step could involve finalising succession plans should Ederson move on. Stefan Ortega Moreno is well liked within the club and could step up to No.1 duties, but City may also opt for a long-term external solution in the aforementioned Trafford.
Manchester City’s stance remains calm, and they are not expected to pressure the Brazilian into making a hasty decision. However, with Galatasaray now moving proactively, this is a story that could accelerate quickly in the days ahead.
