Arsenal Transfer Radar: Mbeumo, Gittens, Lookman on Right-Wing Shortlist

As Arsenal prepare for another crucial summer in the transfer market, TEAMtalk have revealed that the Gunners are targeting three exciting right-wing options: Bryan Mbeumo, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Ademola Lookman. Manager Mikel Arteta and Sporting Director Andrea Berta appear determined to elevate the club’s attacking options after another close but ultimately fruitless Premier League campaign.

“Arsenal are keen on reinforcing their attacking options, especially on the right wing,” TEAMtalk reports, as the club intensifies its search for depth and flexibility in wide areas.

Reinforcements Needed After Saka Strain

Bukayo Saka remains Arsenal’s undisputed star on the right wing, but his recent injury struggles have exposed a concerning lack of cover. Arsenal’s ambitions hinge on maintaining attacking output across a long season — something only possible with the right reinforcements.

Gittens and Mbeumo were particularly monitored “during the period when Bukayo Saka was injured,” highlighting Arsenal’s proactive planning to ensure such vulnerabilities don’t recur.

It’s clear the club are not simply seeking squad fillers. Each of the three reported targets brings a unique skill set to the table — and importantly, a proven track record of productivity.

Mbeumo: Premier League Proven and Potent

Of the three, Bryan Mbeumo is arguably the most Premier League-ready. Brentford’s French-born Cameroon international has been a consistent performer since 2019.

“Brentford manager Thomas Frank has used the Cameroon international mainly as a right-winger this season, with the 25-year-old scoring 18 goals and providing eight assists in 39 matches in all competitions.”

That output would be welcomed at the Emirates, especially from a player who knows the rigours of English football. However, the price-tag could prove a stumbling block, with TEAMtalk confirming that “Brentford want around €60million (£51m)” — a sum Arsenal are reportedly hoping to negotiate down.

Gittens’ Youth and Versatility a Draw

At 20, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens offers raw potential and versatility. A product of Borussia Dortmund’s renowned development system, the Englishman has impressed in both domestic and European competitions.

“The winger has scored 12 goals and given five assists in 46 appearances for Dortmund in 2024-25,” the report notes. While primarily deployed on the left, he has shown adaptability by operating on the right wing over the past two seasons.

Arteta is said to be particularly enthusiastic about Gittens’ profile — a young, tactically flexible forward with upside and resale value. With a slightly lower valuation than Mbeumo, he could be a shrewd acquisition.

Lookman: European Pedigree and Tactical Intelligence

The most experienced of the trio, Ademola Lookman has rediscovered top form at Atalanta. Having helped the Serie A club lift the Europa League, the Nigeria international is once again on English radars.

“Lookman…has scored 19 goals and given seven assists in 38 appearances for Atalanta this season,” TEAMtalk confirm. Though he’s featured mainly as a second striker, his previous seasons saw him thrive on the right.

Given his pedigree and recent resurgence, Arsenal’s interest makes perfect sense. But with Manchester United, Juventus and PSG also reportedly circling, Lookman’s signature won’t come cheap or easy — especially with a similar €60m valuation to Mbeumo.

Decision Time: One Signing, Three Profiles

Crucially, TEAMtalk clarify that “Arsenal…are not planning to sign all three of them”, instead seeking the best option based on price, fit, and player willingness. Each candidate offers something different: Mbeumo’s reliability, Gittens’ ceiling, and Lookman’s European nous.

Arteta and Berta now face a strategic decision — one that could shape the team’s attacking identity heading into the 2025/26 season.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a passionate Arsenal perspective, this is exactly the kind of ambition fans want to see. After another painful near-miss in the title race, it’s refreshing to hear that the club’s hierarchy isn’t wasting time licking wounds but instead acting with intent and vision.

Gittens feels like a classic Arsenal move — young, dynamic, and full of promise. His Dortmund background reminds fans of the club’s long-standing affinity for emerging talent, and there’s no doubt that under Arteta, he could evolve into a game-changer.

But Mbeumo, frankly, feels like the safe bet. Proven in the Premier League, already delivering elite-level numbers, and physically ready for the intensity of English football. If Arsenal want to bridge the final 2-3% gap to Manchester City, then experience matters. He could come in and perform immediately.

As for Lookman — he’s the wildcard, the X-factor. That Europa League campaign was no fluke, and his ability to play across the front line would give Arteta the tactical flexibility he loves. It would be a strong statement if Arsenal beat the likes of PSG and United to him.

In truth, there’s no bad choice here. But there is a best choice — and that will depend on how serious Arsenal are about turning promise into silverware. This feels like a decisive summer, and these names suggest Arsenal are gearing up not just to compete… but to win.
