A curious scene at FC Bayern: a young player caused a stir internally – and received a clear reaction from coach Vincent Kompany

FC Bayern attaches great importance to professionalism and discipline – but even at Säbener Straße, not every day is perfect. As reported by Sport BILD, an unusual incident occurred last summer involving young talent Wisdom Mike

According to the report, the 17-year-old winger allowed himself a serious slip-up: during a team meeting in the morning, Mike fell asleep in the front row of the auditorium – a faux pas that naturally did not go unnoticed internally

The background to the scene is said to have been that Mike had spent too long in Munich the previous evening with another player who had since been loaned out. The youngster is said not to have denied the incident

Coach Vincent Kompany’s handling of the situation is particularly remarkable: instead of exposing the player in front of the team, the Belgian sought a personal conversation

Kompany made it clear to his protégé that such behaviour was unacceptable and at the same time urged him to concentrate fully on his development in future. The message was clear – but internally and without public humiliation

Mike obviously took the words to heart, and the attacking player subsequently worked hard on himself and continued to fight for his chance in the professional squad

Kompany gave Mike his Bundesliga debut

His efforts paid off: on 26 September 2025, he celebrated his Bundesliga debut in a 4-0 win against Werder Bremen, with Kompany sending him onto the pitch with a wink: „You’ve earned it – but don’t fall asleep again!“

However, the incident was not without consequences. According to Sport BILD, Mike was internally sanctioned. The teenager had to leave his room at the Bayern campus for a week and stay in a hotel at his own expense. His father was also asked to attend a meeting

At the same time, the situation was also monitored by sports director Christoph Freund, who took care of the internal processing

Mike currently has to take a break from sport, having suffered a serious muscle and tendon injury to his left hip in March and will be out until at least the end of the season.
