Revealed: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen stance on Manchester United move

Barcelona are unlikely to make any signings in January, but there is the possibility that players could leave. And at this stage, one of the leading candidates would be club captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen has yet to feature this season after undergoing back surgery over the summer, but when he does return, he will not be in Hansi Flick’s plans. Given that he is desperate to start for Germany at the 2026 World Cup, he will need to make a move elsewhere in order to achieve his dream – and he will have opportunities, given that he has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United.

However, Diario AS have reported that Ter Stegen continues to make it clear that he has no plans to leave Barcelona, as was his stance in the summer before undergoing surgery.

Ter Stegen sees himself as being very capable of challenging Joan Garcia for the starting goalkeeper spot in Flick’s line-up, but right now, there is no plans for anyone else but the former Espanyol stopper to hold that position.

Barcelona are happy for Ter Stegen to stay

As per the report, Barcelona would have no qualms if Ter Stegen decides to stay, but they have made it clear that he will not see regular action, unless Garcia were to suffer another injury – he is currently sidelined after undergoing minor knee surgery. As such, it would make sense for him to seek a move if he does want to play at next summer’s World Cup.

It remains to be seen how Ter Stegen approaches his situation as the winter transfer window nears. An exit – even on loan – would make a lot of sense for him, but for now, he continues to hold out hope that he will return to being Barcelona’s number one.
