Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram had to watch from the sidelines as AC Milan squeezed past the Nerazzurri in last night’s Serie A derby at San Siro.
According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Frenchman struggled with a flu yesterday, forcing Cristian Chivu to leave him out of the squad.
Despite his underwhelming form since recovering from injury, Marcus Thuram remains one of Inter’s standout performers.
Therefore, his absence hurt heavily last night, as Francesco Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny struggled to make an impact.
However, the former Borussia Monchengladbach star could soon return to action.
With Thuram dealing with a flu and Lautaro Martinez recovering from a calf injury, Cristian Chivu found himself strapped for options in attack yesterday.
Indeed, he had to field Esposito and Bonny as his starting pair in the final third, even though they had only played 217 minutes together before kickoff.
As such, it’s unsurprising that the young duo failed to do much against Massimiliano Allegri’s well-organized backline.
Although El Toro will not return before late March, Chivu could have Thuram at his disposal for next weekend’s clash against Atalanta.
Inter will face La Dea in a must-win Serie A clash at San Siro next weekend.
