Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan were relentless in their pursuit of the former Marseille star Luis Henrique in the early summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Italian giants had a good reason to push for the Brazilian’s arrival.
Cristian Chivu’s side paid Marseille a total of €25 million to sign Luis Henrique in June.
Indeed, part of the reason was Inter’s bid to include the 23-year-old in their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup squad.
However, there was a more strategic motivation behind the deal.

Inter went above and beyond to finalize Henrique’s arrival as quickly as possible.
Furthermore, they faced stiff competition from Bayern Munich, yet the player chose San Siro instead of the record-time German champions.
However, Bayern’s interest in Henrique was not the reason Inter had put so much pressure on Marseille.
Instead, Chivu’s men had feared they could lose Denzel Dumfries to a relatively affordable release clause.
The Dutchman was available for a mere €25 million in July, yet he ended up staying at Giuseppe Meazza.
