Ricardo Pepi’s (23) anticipated move to Fulham has collapsed for a second time, with negotiations breaking down despite an agreement in principle between the clubs, Sky Sports has reported.
The £30m deal, which included potential add-ons, had progressed to an advanced stage, with Pepi undergoing a medical in London after PSV Eindhoven granted permission. The striker had been expected to return to the Netherlands to complete the season before finalising the transfer.
However, PSV technical director Ernest Stewart confirmed that a key disagreement over when “responsibility for the player would be transferred” ultimately derailed the move.
“While we did get a bit closer to each other, we remained too far apart,” Stewart said, adding that the situation was “unpleasant” for the player, who had been keen on the switch.
The collapse marks the second failed attempt to complete the transfer, following initial talks during the January window. PSV had previously been reluctant to sanction a deal without securing a replacement.
Despite speculation suggesting a possible injury concern, sources close to Pepi have dismissed that claim.
Fulham are expected to retain their interest, with the possibility of revisiting the deal in the summer.
