River Plate president: We must respect Palmeiras in Libertadores

Palmeiras and River Plate will face each other in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores, and the atmosphere is already heating up off the field. On the Argentine side, president Jorge Brito made a point of highlighting the respect for Verdão and projected a high-level clash between two of the continent's greatest forces.

River needs to respect Palmeiras because it is a great team, and I think, from what I've heard, Palmeiras also has a lot of respect for River. We know we have the tools, we have players and a great coach to beat any team. So, we have to focus on our game, return to the football that characterized all of Gallardo's teams, and if all goes well, the result will be very positive for River.

The duel marks another chapter in the recent rivalry between the clubs. In 2020, the teams faced each other in a historic semifinal, when Palmeiras came out on top and paved the way to conquer America. Now, with renewed squads and new protagonists, the expectation is for another balanced series.
