Wrexham AFC, Sheffield United, and Coventry City should all plan to make moves for Crystal Palace centre-back Rob Holding, who is set for a move away.

Crystal Palace defender Rob Holding is catching the eye of several Championship clubs this summer, according to reports on Sunday morning.

The former Arsenal centre-back spent the second-half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, playing 11 times as Chris Wilder's side fell to a late defeat at Wembley Stadium against Sunderland, denying them an instant return to the Premier League.

Now, Holding could be set for another move away from the reigning FA Cup champions this summer, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon page on Sunday morning, with several MLS and Championship sides said to be interested in his services.

The 29-year-old left Arsenal to join London rivals Palace in 2023, but has made just one appearance in two years after reportedly falling out with boss Oliver Glasner, and being exiled to the Under-21s squad.

Following the release of the latest reports by Nixon, Football League World decided to look at three EFL Championship clubs who could make a move for the wantaway defender this summer.

Wrexham AFC

After gaining automatic promotion to the Championship last season, Wrexham are really an unknown quantity in the second tier ahead of the new campaign, with plenty of exciting names being linked with the Welsh club.

Their current squad is currently lacking experienced players who are Championship quality, which is something Phil Parkinson will be keen to address ahead of the big kick-off in a few weeks' time.

With the Red Dragons having plenty of money to play with this summer, they should pursue a move to bring a big name like Holding to the Racecourse Ground, which would be a serious statement of intent by the Hollywood-owned side.

The 29-year-old brings a plethora of Premier League experience, and was also a part of a top Championship side in the second-half of last season, which is exactly what Wrexham are crying out for in their defensive unit.

Sheffield United

One option that might seem obvious is a return to Bramall Lane, as Sheffield United prepare for the new season under their new boss Ruben Selles, who replaced Wilder earlier in the summer.

Holding has previously hinted at his desire to make the loan move permanent this summer, and it seems like somewhat of a no-brainer to bring him back to the club this summer.

The experienced central defender would bring a sense of familiarity to the heart of the defence, having spent the second-half of last season with the Blades, making a seamless integration into the squad.

He has already proven to be a strong option for Sheffield United at Championship level in his previous loan spell, so a permanent move would be a low-risk, high-reward transfer for Selles.

Coventry City

Another side on the end of a late play-off heartbreak last term at the hands of eventual promotion winners Sunderland was Frank Lampard's Coventry City, who lost out in the semi-finals in agonising fashion.

The ex-Chelsea boss did a remarkable job to guide the Sky Blues to a top-six finish after a dismal start to the season, and will now once again be looking to mount a promotion challenge in the forthcoming campaign.

Lampard has previously expressed interest in signing Holding, and could reignite that this summer, with the two-time FA Cup-winning defender now set to make a move away from Selhurst Park.

Adding an experienced and assured head to the Coventry defence would be a real coup for the club, and Holding could thrive after adapting to Lampard's system, using his top-level pedigree to help the Sky Blues mount a promotion challenge.
